London Street February Photowalk
Event info
Today we will visit Walthamstow! A fascinating part of London with markets, ancient buildings and "God's Own Junkyard" to visit and explore
Our route will take us from Walthamstow Station through to the Village where we will be able to see 'Ancient House' - a 15th Century timber-framed building with many original features. The Old Fire Station looks like a small detached (somewhat dilapidated) garage and used to house the local fire engine.
But the highlight of this first part of the walk will possibly be the visit to God's Own Junkyard - for some fun photography. "New and used neon fantasies, salvaged signs, reclaimed neon signs, old movie props and retro displays ...." are just some of the items on show (and for sale) here.
N.B. Gods Own Junkyard does not allow Cameras (DSLR) but does allow mobile phone photography for personal or social media purposes only.
We will return hopefully via some interesting streets to Walthamstow Central where we can visit the "legendary" Walthamstow market. Started in 1885 this is now Europe's longest outdoor street market spanning a kilometre of the HIgh Street (so say the books!). We will not spend long here but will continue on to Black Horse: at this point if people want to drop out, they can - or some may wish to walk across the bridge to Walthamstow Wetlands, where there is a pretty decent cafe for lunch and, of course, the Wetlands to be visited for those who wish.
