Kit Martin - Analogue Photographer

Event info

I live in north Fife, near vibrant and creative Dundee.

Having studied Biological Imaging in Derby I worked in both medical and forensic photography. Detail, texture, fragility and the infinite beauty of nature interest me. I am currently making cyanotype prints, both from objects and digital negatives.

I've also recently been experimenting with the argyrotype process, lumens and photograms. Making, as well as taking, photographs. I have made the move from analogue to digital but am old-fashioned at heart and love to make a print in the darkroom, or in the sun.

I regularly run workshops in the cyanotype process with adults and young artists as well as pinhole camera workshops. See exhibitions and workshops page.

Kit is based in Tayport, and is currently doing a M.Arts at Duncan of Jordanstone. She won the Richard Cowan SPA Award in 2022, following a residency at Island Darkroom in Lewis.

My previous experience has been as a medical and police photographer.
Since becoming self-employed I have been drawn back to film photography through my appreciation of process and experimentation as well as imperfection.

I have had an Intrepid 4x5 camera for a while. During a recent residency on Lewis, I took the opportunity to spend more time with it, and began experimenting with double exposures.
I photographed Mhairi, my host and owner of Island Darkroom, which I double exposed with her bothy that was home during my stay.
