RPS Scotland Print Exhibition

Aims:
• To promote quality photography by members of RPS Scotland.
• To choose 40 images that reflect the breadth of work undertaken by members of RPS Scotland.

Entry & Genres:
Portraiture, Contemporary, Documentary, Landscape, Natural History, Travel, Visual Art.

Selection:

1st Stage: The prints shall be divided up into the genres, as chosen by the image authors, and the number of images chosen per genre will reflect the relative percentages of each genre’s representation in the total amount of images chosen, with at least one image from every genre that has an entry. For example if there were 50 entries, 25 of which were landscape, then 50% of the chosen exhibitionwill be made up from the remaining genres. The aim is to attain a balance across the range of work.

Entry of images

There is a fixed charge of £5 per entry which can consist of up to 2 prints of any size and on any subject, all mounted at 500mmx400mm, bearing the name and photographic qualifications of the author, and the title on the rear of the mount.

All images should be solely the work of the photographer who submits them, and cannot have been part of previous Exhibitions. On entry each image should be assigned to a genre, as per the RPS Distinctions definitions noted above, by the author.

The authors of each image chosen undertake to supply a named and titled jpeg, following the same protocols of the prints themselves, of the image for an online exhibition, preferably prior to, but at least on the day, or within 7 days of the selection process at the latest. Those images that do not have an accompanying jpeg by this time will be deselected. will be landscape. If there was just one travel image, then it would automatically go through, and the genre from the highest number of prints would lose one space. The images chosen would be by consensus of all those present. If at this stage expert opinion present notes processing faults in any image that would not meet the technical standards of the RPS Scotland Exhibition, then any such images shall be removed from the process.

2nd Stage:

Each member will have only one image in the exhibition, and so any member with two images selected will be asked to identify that, and to remove one of their choosing, following appropriate discussion amongst the other photographers present, taking into account the member’s own stated preference if the author is not present. The 40 prints left standing will form the Exhibition. If there are less than 40, then the prints “deselected” by the members at the 1st stage will be voted on, to make up the 40, keeping the ratio of genres intact. Every member who submits an image will get one exhibited image in the online exhibition, which will run as a parallel annual exhibition, which will not be limited to 40 images.

The Travelling Exhibition:

The Exhibition will travel round Scotland, and will also be shown on the RPS Scotland website / YouTube page. Whilst every care will be taken with all images / mounts RPS Scotland is not liable for any damage or loss that occurs to any photographer’s work. Any images unclaimed at the following year’s selection will be disposed of.
