Photographing Bright Galaxies
Event info
Fully Booked.
NEW - This two hour workshop is online using Zoom.
You may have seen some of those amazing photographs from the Hubble Telescope, but did you know there are some bright galaxies you can photograph with your camera. This workshop will cover what equipment you need, which bright galaxies to try such as the Orion Nebula which is very easy at the moment, how to find them and most importantly, how to process the images afterwards. So you don’t get cold we will also discuss using the features in your camera (hopefully you have them) which will allow you to stay warm.
Lilian Hobbs LRPS is an astrophotographer who has been photographing the night for over 20 years from her garden close to Southampton. With the amazing low light capabilities of many cameras today Lilian will show you that you no longer need a specialised camera to photograph the night sky.

The Tutor:
Dr Lilian Hobbs FRAS LRPS is a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and has been an amateur astronomer for many years. She is well known as a speaker at local astronomy clubs and more recently at photography groups too. Lilian’s real interest in astronomy is astro photography and her garden observatories have been featured on the BBC Sky at Night. Astronomy has seen the introduction of many new ideas to help, observe and photograph the night sky. Lilian is always keen to try out these new ideas and share her thoughts on their use, e.g. have you ever thought of using a gimbal or a GoPro for astrophotography? Lilian has also written a couple of astronomy books.
