Winner: Under the Rainbow, Niagara Falls by David Short
This beautiful photograph of Niagara Falls is exceptionally striking. The presence of the rainbow infuses the image with a sense of enchantment, while the harmonious colour palette and the cascading water elegantly direct my gaze towards the vibrant red boat. The thoughtful composition, featuring the boat centrally positioned, imparts a sense of scale and provides a compelling focal point. It is a well captured scene that almost makes me hear the roar of the waterfalls. This stunning and breathtaking travel photo is the kind that many dream of having, making it the unequivocal winner of the month!
Highly commended:
Hyderabad Tomato Seller by Paul Reynolds
This photo captures a lively market scene in India, where vibrant colours vividly enhance the dynamic atmosphere. The central lady, dressed in traditional attire, stands out beautifully against the bustling backdrop. The two women carrying crates add both depth and context, enriching the narrative of the image. The composition is skillfully arranged, guiding the viewer’s gaze through the triangular formation created by the three women. Overall, this powerful travel image conveys a strong sense of place, weaving together storytelling and human connection in a captivating way.
Life Above, Reflections Below Millennium Bridge, London by Ankit Mohanty
This is an interesting shot of the Millennium Bridge in London at a very different perspective. It captures the essence of London’s urban environment, focusing on structure and human interaction with the space. The monochrome palette creates a contemplative and artistic mood. It may be even better to keep the highlight on the two persons since my eyes are constantly drawn to the brighter water at the bottom.
A very creative shot, highlighting the architecture and urban life. Well done!
Tuscany Val d’Elsa by Gabriele Dellanave
A magnificent picture captures an iconic road in Tuscany, gracefully leading to a charming hotel or a vintage villa. Tall, slender cypress trees line the path forming a visually striking and symmetrical composition. The sunlight casts intricate shadows, adding depth to the tree and the road. This scene beautifully conveys a sense of place, evoking feelings of peace and tranquillity. To enhance its appeal, introducing an interesting element in the foreground (like a person) during the golden hours could create a more dynamic visual experience.
