Denis Thorpe - memories rekindled

...connections across Photography

On my way home from the Awards evening. I had the great honour of presenting the awards this year. It was a pleasure to talk to all the recipients; in the photo session before, on stage during the ceremony and over drinks afterwards.

There was a lot to admire about the Awards and here I want to concentrate on one of the deliverables that we bring to our community – the sense of connection that comes from attending our events. Both before and after the main ceremony there was time to discuss many aspects of photography with the people present. It was also an opportunity to rebuild and refresh connections made with other people’s work that has informed and educated my own.

My photographic working life started in monochrome photography and I took the chance to talk with a role model of the genre – Denis Thorpe HonF. Our connections go deeper as I know some of his family members so it was a chance to show family snapshots too. Memories (and photographs) are made of this…
