IPE 165 Shortlist Revealed

416 photographers have been selected for the next stage of the RPS International Photography Exhibition 165

Earlier this year we launched the open call for the 165th International Photography Exhibition (IPE 165). Today we are excited to reveal the shortlisted photographers, featuring work from 416 photographers from 41 countries.

The photographers were chosen from a worldwide open call in which over 6000 images were entered by 5205 photographers around the world. The selection, made anonymously, demonstrates the breadth of contemporary image-making and storytelling that includes alternative approaches, new genres, and processes. The selection explores themes of identity, relationships, religion, conflict, global cultural issues and the environment.

The IPE 165 guest selection panel are Àsìkò (Visual artist), Louise Fedotov-Clements (Co-Founder of FORMAT), Siqi Li (Visual Artist), Dr Michael Pritchard (RPS Director of Programmes and photohistorian) and Raquel Villar-Pérez (Curator).

The final selection of 100 photographs and award winners, which will be chosen from the shortlisted prints in September, will be announced later this year. Selected exhibiting photographers will be offered exclusive opportunities including two awards, the IPE Award and the Under 30’s Award alongside a £2250 prize fund for standout entrants and features in the award-winning RPS Journal.

The International Photography Exhibition 165 will be on display at RPS Gallery, Bristol in January 2024.

Congratulations to all the shortlisted photographers.
