This photographic project started as a means to raise the profile of the Marylebone Project Charity which looks after homeless women in London and to honour the amazing staff who work there. Within society, there are incredible selfless people who give back in extraordinary ways, but generally we don’t notice them or value them in the way we aspire to fame or notoriety.
Shooting the series on the streets of London became even more apparent, as almost nobody noticed an angel with giant wings in their midst. We are as a society more globally connected through technology than any other time in history, yet we are lonelier and suffer increasing mental health issues. We are more divided and more separate. Our society looks down and inwards rather than up and outwards. We have isolated ourselves into digital bubbles that reduce our peripheral vision and dull our senses.
The Angel series of images is a powerful reminder that we can choose to look up and out, to be empathetic and kind, to engage in the here and now. Then we will not only see the angels but value them too.
