Just as some of the party arrived for an early start, the heavens opened and we were forced to shelter until the rain eased off. We eventually set off for one of the Hides and were quite soon rewarded with great views of a female Hen Harrier (left: Hen Harrier by Nick Akers; right: Hen Harrier by Phil Miles).
Most birds were rather distant but we did get good view of a Heron as it flew around the Mere keeping away any intruders and of a Marsh Harrier on several occasions (left: Marsh Harrier and right: Grey Heron by duncan Locke)
We had been told there was a Little Owl in a pile of logs in the middle of a field - it took some time to find it, the camouflage being so complete (Left: Little Owl by Duncan Locke, Right: Logs with Owl and Reed Bunting by Nick Akers)
The sun showed itself in the afternoon before heavy showers (and a rainbow) brought our day to a close (photo by Ann Miles).
