On April 17th 9 Members of the RPS Nature Group visited Stanwick Lakes in Northamptonshire. The weather was cool and very breezy - difficult conditions though the light was good
The target species was the Great Crested Grebe and there were certainly plenty of pairs to choose from. As expected, most of them kept their distance but we observed at least the preliminary head shaking displays and charges across the water. No weed dances though
Some of us spent a while trying to capture the flight of the Sand Martins that have returned to their nest site under Sand Martin Bridge while others had a go at the larger targets - the Black-headed Gulls skimming the water for midges.
More intimate shots involved a pair of courting Mute Swans and a Goldfinch taking seeds from a dandelion head.
No idea what was happening in the last shot!!!
