Five  members participated in a wonderful winter weekend with visits to Hunstanton on Saturday and Titchwell on Sunday. The weather was mixed; dry on the Saturday with reasonable light all day. On Sunday, the rain arrived late morning but not until we had enjoyed some time in the hides and managed to wlk down to the tideline on the beach. Most people left around lunchtime to get back in daylight hours but I stayed on and was rewarded with a great morning birdwatching before driving home.

Hunstanton was amazing for the sheer numbers and the variety of wader species and how close we could get to them. It was a very low tide so the mussel beds were fully exposed attracting thousands of birds including both types of Godwits, numerous Curlew, Redshank, Oystercatchers, Turnstones etc. We walked along the rocks and then the sands to Old Hunstanton Cafe for a brunch. We walked back nearer to the cliffs and enjoyed the antics of the Fulmars, again much more numerous than previous years and busy setting up territories

On Sunday we met at Titchwell RSPB Reserve and walked to the Island hide where there were flocks of hundreds of Golden Plover on the Islands and in the air. The rain started as we got to the beach and, as there were very few birds there, we returned for an early lunch.

My morning on Hunstanton beach was a repeat of Saturday but in superb low morning sunlight as it came above the cliffs.
