A party of 10 RPS Members plus a few members from Swavesey Camera club met at Brandon CP at 10am on Saturday. We split into two parties. Our party spent the morning firstly in the woods close to the Visitor Centre, photographing various small fungi that were coming up in the leaf litter after the rain. The most abundant species was Amanita citrina, the False Death Cap.
Janet, our sharp eyed spotter, found some slime moulds to test our macro techniques. Otherwise various lighting and background set ups were tried and the morning passed very quickly.
After a warming lunch break in the cafe, we headed off down the ride from the house a bit worried how much photography we would be able to do as the promised rain showers had arrived.
We were very lucky to keep dry all afternoon and found a very good variety of fungi including Porcelain, Fly Agarics, Yellow Stagshorn and more False Death caps. Again we experimented with lighting and techniques to add interest to the bokeh when looking into the light.
Our Sunday trip was to Santon Downham - a very large Forestry Commission wood. 5 Members enjoyed an abundance of interesting species including the Dog Stinkhorn (hero image), large numbers of Porcelain Fungi, Puff Balls, Fircone fungi etc etc.
In total 13 RPS Members plus partners attended one or both workshops and we managed to stay dry despite the showers on Saturday. Given the very dry autumn up to last week, we were very pleased to find so many good subjects
