WINNER OF BURSARY AND RPS MEMBERSHIP

Bethany Lovell is the winner of the Western Region Project Award in the form of a £200 Bursary plus a one year membership to the Royal Photographic Society. Applications were invited from students studying for a degree related to Photography in a higher education establishment in the Western Region.

Bethany is a student at the University Centre Weston and her submission describing a project she will be pursuing in her final year prompted the Western Region Committee to declare her the winner of the 2022 Award.

“I am a 3rd year photography student from UCW. I have a long-standing passion for art which took me through my years in education and I'm so grateful to be able to continue to do what I enjoy. Thank you so much for this opportunity.”

The committee was impressed by Bethany’s project where she plans to create tableau vivants, exploring the way that using colour and tone can change the emotion of a picture. She will be using paintings from the renaissance period as inspiration for how she chooses to pose the models she photographs. The bursary will be put towards the cost of prints for a final exhibition at the end of the project.

The Western Region plan to make the same offering in 2023 so please take the opportunity to encourage all students in the region to check the WR web site for details of next year’s Project Award.
