Statement of Intent
The aim with my landscape, seascape and, occasionally, cityscape photography is to record my emotional response to a subject rather than making an objective record. In this series I wanted to achieve a result that invites the gentle contemplative and meditative feeling that the scenes evoked for me. To this end I de-emphasised any sense of time and place as much as possible, instead focusing on the timeless aspects of the scene. I wanted to create a sense of vast open space, reminding the viewer of man’s insignificance in the cosmos. This relationship is emphasised by the inclusion of tiny figures - the birds, boats, animals, trees and people - which also serve as anchor points for the contemplative gaze.
