Statement of Intent
Skateparks
Bearing the scars of daily use, discarded rubbish and some inevitable graffiti, skateparks are the playgrounds of modem youth. Scenes of frenetic activity at peak times yet odd alien landscapes with no apparent purpose when deserted.
I enjoy showing that the most unlikely subjects can be intrinsically interesting in their own right and the bizarre topography of these empty spaces inspired my creative imagination. Devoid of human presence to indicate purpose or scale I found they made an unusual and intriguing subject.
I chose to work in monochrome to focus attention on their form and texture and to further extract them from the familiar and in some images I have used deep shadow as a graphic device to emphasise shapes.
