Sensationally Ugly
Grafton Carpark, prominently situated on the seafront of an English seaside town, is an example of Brutalist Architecture at its worst. Yet, after two attempts to try and make it visually acceptable, it is still SENSATIONALLY UGLY!
It is a rundown multi-storey architectural monstrosity that exudes a chilling and uninviting air. The interior is equally unpleasant with discoloured damp concrete walls, seagull guano, abandoned supermarket trolleys and general detritus.
My vision - to soften its harsh and foreboding brutal appearance to one of interest and mystery by way
of an imaginary Expressionistic makeover inspired, in part, by the work of Edvard Munch.
As luck would have it the structure was found to have crumbling concrete making the building unsafe, forcing the town council to immediately close it. .... hopefully permanently.
Good news for the town but not so for the seagulls!
