Johan Peijnenburg, Swiss Chapter Organiser

I am a Dutch-born landscape and nature photographer residing in the Lugano region of Switzerland. I moved to Switzerland in 2008, to pursue photography full-time. Before then, I worked as an entrepreneur, project manager and software designer.

Nature tells a different story every hour of the day. For me, nothing beats being out there to watch that story evolve. My photography tries to capture the mood and essence of natural scenes, often utilising long exposures to create emotive and visually captivating images. I am happiest when photographing rugged coastal areas, mountains, lakes, as well as minimalist winter landscapes. Most of my more recent work is in black & white.

My work has been published in various books and magazines. Additionally, many of my photographs have been printed and hung around the world in both homes and businesses. I also offer tailor-made photography workshops and coaching, aiming to share my passion and expertise with others.

I enjoy taking images of a wide variety of subjects when I am out and about. As a result my instagram account looks quite eclectic with anything from minimalistic black and white to architectural elements and colourful abstracts!

In my project work, however, I like to explore photography as a way to visually represent the hidden feelings and emotions associated with life events, especially those that affect women. I often use self portraiture and stage images. I also employ double exposure techniques or add colour as metaphors and as ways of layering or challenging meaning.

I hold a BA (Hons) Degree in Photography from the University of Creative Arts. My work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions.

I have been fascinated by natural processes since childhood: the annual sprouting of plants, the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies, the constant changes in the sky throughout the day, and the shifting faces of people over time. Observing, documenting, and perhaps understanding these transformations are the driving forces behind my scientific and photographic work. In my photographic work abstraction of visual impressions is balancing my rational world with my emotional world.
