Visit to Dave Shrimpton's Studio

Event info

Description

A rare opportunity to pay a visit to Dave Shrimpton's "Victorian" studio where Dave creates his amazing work predominately on Wet Plate. Very limited numbers due to space but Dave will talk about himself and his work and will provide a demonstration of the Wet Plate process, as well as answer your questions. If you're new to Wet Plate be prepared to be amazed and if you're already familiar then I'm sure you will already know Dave's wonderful work.

A little about Dave:

Dave Shrimpton was the winner of the prestigious “BJP Portrait of Britain in 2023 using one of my Wet Pate Collodion ambrotype's. He's a Large Format and Wet Plate collodion photographer working and teaching in his Victorian studio & darkroom close to Cambridge, where he creates portraits & art, deliberately taking time to slow down and reconnect with photography using methods dating from 1851.

He used to work as a creative director, who was spending more time with pixels and Photoshop than creating the art he wanted and that led him to fall out of love with photography entirely.

Following a sabbatical in a log cabin deep in the Transylvanian forest (yes really!) and having thought about what he wanted to create, he sourced the equipment needed and filled the Victorian studio with 19th century lenses and cameras. He's reconnected with glamour and beauty in a way that only wet plate collodion and analogue film can.

Note: Please bring your own lunch as none will be provided - tea and coffee will be available
