Event info

With Iñaki Hernández-Lasa FRPS, FIPF

Born in Bilbao and living in Ireland since 1990, Iñaki specialises in architectural photography and shares with many photographers his absolute passion for the Guggenheim Museum in his native city. A highly respected speaker and judge, Iñaki has photographed some of the most renowned buildings in the world. These include the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A., the City of Arts & Sciences in Valencia, Berlin's Reichstag and the Milwaukee Art Museum to name but a few. A regular workshop leader he has taken multiple groups of very experienced photographers on international workshops. His images have received numerous accolades both nationally and internationally.

Iñaki has served as a member of the Distinctions Committee of the Royal Photographic Society and currently sits as an assessor on the Visual Art panel.

In 2013 Iñaki received a Fellowship of the Irish Photographic Federation (FIPF) for his work in architectural photography. This is the highest level of distinction awarded by the IPF and Iñaki is the only photographer to have received an FIPF with a panel of architectural photography.

In 2018 Iñaki received a Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS) under the category of Fine Art with a new body of work that displayed an innovative approach into the study of minimalism, shape and form in architectural photography.

Two Fellowships by two different photographic organisations with two very diverse and distinctive bodies of work confirm Iñaki as a highly experienced and respected architectural photographer. These achievements not only validate his technical ability but also his skills in panelling as well as his mastery with challenging compositions, use of light, postprocessing and printing techniques.

Over many years, Iñaki has presented his work at numerous events and has acted as a judge nationally and internationally: from the most renowned photographic societies in Ireland and the United Kingdom, to FIAP level and international architectural competitions.

In this talk Iñaki will explain some fundamentals in architectural photography, some concepts that he applies in his work and will show his 2 Fellowship panels: the Fellowship from the Irish Photographic Federation from 2013 and the Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society from 2018. The two are completely different in concept and approach.

This will be followed by an audio-visual with over 100 images. After a break there will be detailed comments on a large number of Iñaki'sfavourites images - 50 in total.

Iñaki will also be discussing some aspects that are important when it comes to panelling bodies of work, while  illustrating this with his
FIPF and FRPS panels.
