Getting Creative with Glenys Garnett: Discover Your Inner Spark

Glenys GarnettBA(Hons) is a visual artist and uses photography as her primary medium to realise her creative ideas around nature and the natural environment.

She lives in Wakefield and can’t remember a time when she didn’t use a camera. She particularly likes to encourage the use of creative thinking and techniques to develop more artistic approaches to creating images.

Glenys started her own business in 2011 after obtaining a First Class BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Communication at Leeds Metropolitan University and Batley School of Art & Design.

She describes herself as not being a purist about photography. She uses the camera as a tool, the first part of the process of producing an image, often with an artistic intent rather than a documentary capture. This may involve a number of creative techniques.

Glenys also produces what she calls her Creative Images –  these are often montages or composites made in Photoshop and represent a more artistic approach to her imagery.

She uses a variety of in-camera techniques like ICM and multiple exposure, vintage lenses, scanning and wet mediums like cyanotype to incorporate into her work. This talk will cover a variety of these techniques illustrated by her images including the use of in-camera and Photoshop composites and use of alternative capture like scanner and wet media.

Most of the techniques she uses are not difficult to learn especially if you have a little experience with your camera and some post processing skills.

Glenys will offer lots of hints and tips on how to approach your photography with a more creative eye, as well as referencing resources like other photographers, books and videos etc that might be helpful.

It is important to come along with an open mind and be prepared to discover your inner creative spark and perhaps leave with some inspiration and a desire to try something different.
