John Gill - Street photographer

Event info

Digital Imaging North West have John Gill for their next talk. John and Bridget Gill are husband and wife street and documentary photographers from West Yorkshire in the UK.

For the past few years, they have undertaken a project to document life in
the former industrial areas of England called “After the Coal Dust”.
Almost all major heavy industry has disappeared from the UK and the photographs show the people left behind.

They take all the images candidly in the local area and have exhibited “After the Coal Dust” several times in the UK and overseas. The book of the same name was released in 2020. John will talk us through his long term project and his approach to street photography whilst showing us his outstanding monochrome images from the project.

See www.johngill.photography and www.afterthecoaldust.com to
see John’s work.

DIG NW Update

As you may know Malcolm Blackburn, our Regional Organiser for the last 7 years has retired and we have struggled to find someone to take on the post.
In addition Covid has had such an impact on our activities and we are unlikely to return to the way we used to run the group.

A few of us have been meeting to work out how to keep DIG NW going and this is our first event so we would really appreciate your support.

This event will be run as a Zoom meeting (rather than the Zoom Webinar system used widely by DIG). This is because we want to use the opportunity to discuss the future roll of our DIG NW group.

Numbers will be limited to 90 to help with this.

We’re sure you will all join with us in thanking Malcolm for all his hard work, and
wishing him all the very best for the future
