When Lockdown was announced in March, many wondered how on earth they were going to cope. Very soon, though, hopscotch and the alphabet were drawn on pavements and rainbows for the NHS appeared everywhere, as did Smile Stones. Who knew that painting a stone in bright colours could bring so much joy and thoughtfulness! My photos remind us not only of the resilience of children but that losing our freedom for a relatively short period in time will save lives.

Selector Brian Steptoe FRPS selected this series of images as favourite because "it combines both the effects on children and the thankyou message about the NHS."
