Repeating Past Mistakes?

With the Covid-19 pandemic it cannot have escaped our notice that there has been an increase in the use of hand-held fever screening devices. Many are used in a medical setting but others are used in restaurants, pubs, airports etc. Back in 2002 at the time of the SARS outbreak they were used widely with questionable reliability. Dr Kevin Howell who is a member of the Imaging Science Group committee has along with two colleagues written a paper entitled “Infrared thermography for mass fever screening: repeating the mistakes of the past?” that explores their use during the current Covid-19 pandemic. You can download a copy of the paper here.
