I was able to access the exact location of the grid intersection. The image is taken with broadly south to the top of the image and broadly north to the bottom of the image. Given it was taken by a drone I was able to get directly over the intersection. 

The intersection point is broadly central (left/right) in the lighter green area of the overall field, to the right of the farm track that is itself to the right of the ‘white’ tree. 

The intersection point is roughly in the middle of the main field shown. The drone was about 100m linear distance from the intersection point and the photo was taken from an altitude of about 55m. The camera was facing SE or ESE.

The puddle-arrow points to the middle of the field where intersection of 51N 2W lies. I was about 80 metres from the point at 50°59'58" N 2°00'02" W and at 155 metres altitude. I was facing east on 30th January 2022 as the winter sun was close to setting. This is a lovely part of Cranborne Chase at the southern end of Wiltshire close to the intersection with Hampshire and Dorset. The nearest village is Bowerchalke where the river Chalke rises and flows into the nearby River Ebble.

The intersection is in a field in slightly undulating countryside, at the foot of a gentle south east facing slope, a good location for a shot at sunrise. Standing behind a lopsided, but interesting oak, I was about 270 metres north west of the intersection itself, which is visible in the adjacent field, near the bottom of the image, about a quarter of the way in from the left edge. My GPS recorded 51°0'2.8765" N 3°0'14.0135" W as my location.

My exact location was N51⁰0'0.1814" W3⁰0'0.014". In this image I was standing on the location, facing a South South-west direction towards the Blackdown Hills. I was in a farmer’s field in Somerset with the owner’s permission.

I believe the intersection is slightly to the left of the field gate shown at the lower left edge of the photo. I chose to move the centre of the picture to the right, as I wanted to include the A378 road and the crossroads at mid-right.  Read more...

51N 3W is in the middle of a field, which, as far as I could tell, is not visible from public land. The field was grassed and essentially featureless. This being the case, I opted for a sunset shot, there being no obvious merit in getting up early for a sunrise shot. I hoped that the sky or light would be a redeeming feature. I walked the lane close to the location, looking for inspiration. As the sun set in a cloudless sky, things weren’t promising. I then photographed a passing car, looking for motion blur. Eventually, I thought about light trails. This image reflects that character of this rural location, with windy lanes and high hedgerows. The location I shot from was approximately 100m southeast of the actual location, which wasn’t visible due to several hedges between me and it.

This intersection lies in rural Somerset, ‘somewhere in the middle’ of grass field which is used for grazing sheep, and slopes gently to the south west near Wrantage, a hamlet within the parish of North Curry: it is about 4.5 miles as the crow flies, south-east (105dgrees) of Taunton.  Read more...

I was standing in a gateway at the start of the track, just off the A377 on 51N 4W looking South West with Umberleigh Bushment on my right.

The location lies in a field off the A377, between a track running south that divides the field and an adjacent area of woodland to the east. I took some shots of the track but preferred the view across the intersection to the woodland, which had some nice light falling intermittently through some fast-moving clouds. I used my 100-400mm lens to focus on the boundary hedge and beyond.

The photo was taken by drone from a height of about 60m, from a point about 400m distant from the intersection of 51N/4W. The intersection is located in the left half of the main field in the photo, about two thirds of the distance from the road to the far end of the field, and about halfway from the tractor track in the middle of the field to the wooded area on its left border.

My exact location was: Longitude 0. 59’ 33.156” East and Latitude 52. 0’ 1.14” North.  This was a dangerous position at the edge of a busy country road just north of the village of Holton St. Mary, Suffolk; the road led to an enterprise zone.  I was facing east.  I was approximately 250 metres west of the intersection.  The intersection itself was, facing the image, along the right hand side of the tractor track and about half way up the green field at the base of the image.

My photograph was taken adjacent to a footpath through Brett Vale Golf Course (of which I’m a member) looking East toward the intersection which is some 2km from the viewpoint. The intersection is in a very unremarkable flat arable field which would be prettier in the snow!

Taken from about 20 metres west of the intersection of 52N 1E, facing roughly east. The intersection is just to the left of the dominant trees on the right side of the frame.

The intersection was actually quite easy to access as there is a public footpath running along the adjacent field boundary. However as the location is fairly featureless, I felt that a low-angle "worm's eye" view might inject a little extra interest in the scene.

This was taken absolutely precisely at 52N, 1E (52.0000, 1.0000 according to my ‘OS Locate’ app).
I was facing due West.

The top left of the image is at 52° 00’05”N 0° 00’06”E, 190 metres from the exact intersection in the middle of a solar farm. By moving away slightly, I was able to make an image which could be tied to a specific place by including part of the surrounding landscape.

The solar panels are facing south, and the CCTV camera is facing in the direction of the exact intersection point located about 150m to the west in the middle of the solar panels farm. My exact location is 51.9997N, 0.0023E about 15m south of the CCTV camera. In early afternoon, the sun projects shadows eastwards, illustrating that sun, energy, light and shadows are inseparable entities.

This point is in the middle of a field of solar farm and it shows an wonderful juxtaposition between nature and the creative minds of humans to harness clean energy.

Taken at an altitude of 97m directly over the intersection in Buckingham, this image shows the view to the west.

The confluence point is in a small field directly behind the gardens of some houses in the very pleasant village of Alderton in Gloucestershire, It’s relatively easy to find down a signed footpath, between the houses on Orchard Road, and is approximately 300-400 yards from the road.  Read more...

This beautiful, ‘Golden Oak’ is bang on the 52N.3W intersection in the middle of a field in the village of Michaelchurch Escley in Herefordshire. 52N 4W, is on a site adjacent to the B4337, at Dinas Quarry, Pen y Ddinas, near Llansawel in Carmarthenshire.

This intersection point is located in Dyffryn, Goodwick, Pembrokeshire. The actual intersection point is at the back of this abandoned ruinous old building, to the rear of this wall is dense impenetrable scrub on private land.  I am standing approximately 5-6 m NE of the actual intersection point facing roughly SW

This is 52N 9W in Co Cork, Ireland. The intersection is half way between me and the tall trees and exactly in line with the last tree on the extreme right effectively at 3 o clock in the image. It is on the incline edge of a boggy valley and from my position I am looking south out towards West Cork. Knocknakilla Stone Circle is about 15 mins walk due West of the intersection.

Trig point 53,0.  Just north of Boston, Lincs.  The tractor is on TRIG point.

My exact location was 53degrees 0 minutes 51.16 seconds North/ 0 degrees 0 minutes  1.57 seconds West. I am facing  West so panorama covers from S to N. Meridian which was approximately 1 km south of my location. The intersection is in the direction of the far left of my scene.

I was at the exact location 53N 0W.

53N 0W is in the foreground of the arable field, looking north-east. The image is a stitched panorama and has been converted to infrared.

Facing South West approx 95m from intersection.

Looking approximately north-north-west with Cocker Beck on my right, the intersection is on the left of the image just in front of the hedgerow.

53N 3W is situated right beside a narrow country lane whose main endearing feature, to my mind, was the curve of the road as it passed under the canopy of trees.  Although my image was created in autumn and there were attractive colours in the trees, I decided to use my infrared camera to emphasise the route of the road.

The actual intersection is amongst the undergrowth on the right hand side of the image.

Right on the intersection, well, 2m away to keep my feet dry, looking approx north.  The image isn't anything special, a tricky location indeed.

At the 53N, 4W intersection, is to be found a small mountain lake. Along with its nearby twin, they are known as Y Llynnau Diffwys (The Diffwys Lakes). This image is taken pointing south west, looking down to Porthmadog and Tremadog Bay, with the mountain of Moelwyn Mawr shown in the left of the photo.

The shot includes the exact intersection (on the shore of the smaller of the two llyns - lake or pool - in the photo).

The intersection of 53N 4W is alongside one of the Diffwys lakes in the Moelwyns in Snowdonia. Having climbed as far as the exact location it seemed a shame not to climb a bit further to elevate myself above and look back over the intersection to show it in its storm-beaten surroundings. The image was taken at 53°00'10.0"N 3°59'50.0"W. The intersection is at the left-hand side of the picture 360m away and is located underneath the left-most limb of the left-hand lake. The vista is looking southwest over the Croesor Valley towards Porthmadog with the slopes of Cnicht on the right.

I was positioned in the marshy ground just in front of the rocks that mark the location of the intersection 53N 4W. The image is a long exposure panorama stick of seven frames. The beautiful lakes of Y Llynnau Diffwys, in the heart of the Moelwynion hills are an obvious focal point from this location, with the more famous Cnicht visible on the skyline. A quiet, peaceful and infrequently seen part of the Snowdonia National Park!!

Taken at the exact intersection of 53N, 4W at the side of the more southerly of the two Llynnau Diffwys, facing SW towards Porthmadog . A bright, sunny day, lovely weather for walking but a bit lacking in detail and contrasty for landscape photography (that's my excuse anyway!)

Taken from the intersection facing ESE with the town of Athy in the background.

Facing the intersection point which is the house behind the third pole on the right hand side. The teddy bear on the left is a symbol for suicide awareness and is has a solar power light on its head. This is lock 26 on the Grand Canal which connects Dublin to Shannon. It is a popular location for walking.

The intersection is situated just off the A64 Leeds to Scarborough road at Stockton on the Forest. Its actual position is located on private land. Three attempts to speak with the landowner proved unsuccessful. By accessing the land as far as I could without damaging any planted crops and walking as close to the edge of the fields as possible, I was able to take the image of the intersection. The closest objects to actual intersection are the trees on the right.

54N 1W taken from 54.001N 0.99W looking west. The intersection is some 25m South (left) of the of the left hand tree.

Please find attached a photo of the bog (extending about 10m either side of Moor Beck on Embsay Moor) at 54N 2W. I was standing about 10m away from and looking towards the intersection, facing approximately east. I got very wet feet, but at least it was lovely weather.

Burning heather on Barden Moor at 54N. 2W.  My exact location was 54.00341 N, 1.99263 W.  I was facing SSW and I was around 300 yards from the intersection.  I think the intersection is approximately where the tractor is, to the extreme left of the shot. The heather burners didn’t want me to come any closer.

The intersection is in a field currently lying fallow.

After obtaining permission from the land owner to enter the property – and being offered good wishes to “Enjoy the stubble” - I located the actual intersection using GPS on a mobile phone – much easier than with a compass and map! Read more...

The intersection of the latitude and longitude is central in the image. It is on farm land between the villages or perhaps more correctly the Hamlets of Aydon and Halton in Northumberland a few miles north of Corbridge.  Read more....

The intersection is on private land in the middle of a field off the A68 just north of Corbridge. I took the image facing east and was standing 250 yards from the point of intersection. The exact point of the intersection lies along the tractor tracks that can be seen directly above the centre of the gate. The image was taken just before noon on a frosty day.

55N 3W is located within the perimeter of a Ministry of Defence munitions depot (MoD Longtown) in northern England less than a mile from the Scottish border.

Taken from about 100 meters from the intersection, because the farmer advised against entering the field with a bull in it. Taken looking in a SSE direction across the intersection.

Taken as far as I could determine at the actual intersection which is at a small hillock. The hillock has an electricity pylon on it. I took several shots from, and of, the hill but liked this one, taken facing north, as it shows both the landscape and - by inference of the shadow - man's impact on it.

Taken from an adjacent field, standing at 55.001, -4.002 looking SE towards 55W.4N. The bull is standing almost exactly on the spot.

As far as I could tell i was within about 100 yards of the intersection which as far as i could determine was in the middle of the trees to right of the photo which are part of a huge forest timber operation. I was facing east when it was taken.

Exact intersection on private land above Carnlough. Image taken facing south, south east from 55.0027N, 5.9795W on an old quarry track about 300m from the intersection, which is behind the farm buildings towards the right of the image.  Image is a 7-image stitched pano.

The intersection lies in a barley field, just below a former quarry, on the shores of the Irish Sea north of Belfast. I was facing west, with the early dawn light striking the field through a hedge from the north easterly direction, leaving these striking shafts of sunlight on the intersection point within the barley field. I was photographing from about 30 metres from the intersection itself, on the edge of the field.

The exact intersection of 55N 7W is to the left of the field close to the centre of the image. I am about 40m from the intersection and the photo is taken facing West.

The intersection point sits within a pasture field, overlooking an area of farmland that lies in between Lough Foyle to the north-west and the striking skyline of Binevinagh to the north-east. However, on the morning I was there the visibility and light was not too exciting, and so I ended up going for a close-up of the intersection point itself - this dried out old dock plant within the grass field.

Taken near the intersection point looking west. I had previously visited this location and taken several shots from the other side of the forest stream but I thought this view better represented the setting.

I was facing NE to capture the Alt Chernie burn at the precise location 57.002N 3.074W which is some 4km from 57N 3W.  I was unable to access the actual intersection because it was in a fenced-off area of forest.

Taken from the intersection point looking south-southeast towards Mount Keen (939m) which is the most easterly Munro.

Taken at the intersection following the driest July for over 100 years, this image depicts a totally dry upland peat bog.  The image looks towards the munro Mount Keen (939m) some 3km to the SSE. The heather and grasses were rendered white by the use of an infrared camera whilst the peat, visible in the bog gullies in the foreground and middle distance, appears black.

The intersection is a 5 mile walk from Ballater. I chose a very warm day with thunderstorms predicted. It is situated near a grouse moor so had to choose a Sunday when the grouse get a day off being shot. I am about 200 yards from the point looking south east towards Mount Keen which is the most Easterly Munro (over 300 feet). Luckily the ground was very dry as this area is usually a bog. The intersection is more-or-less central in the frame in the lower ground behind the foreground rocks.

Taken from the intersection looking North East towards the Cairngorm plateau

The intersection is in the West Highlands of Scotland, about 15 miles north of Fort William. Access involved a 3 mile walk north from the shore of Loch Arkaig, on a little used stalkers’ track leading to boggy moorland. The exact location of the intersection is a short distance from where I stood, looking north. It is on the hillside in the top left of my photograph. I chose to show the nature of the terrain and the derelict bridge over the Allt Dubh.

Location: inland from Golspie, Sutherland. Precise position image taken from 58 degrees, 0 minutes, 19 secs North, 04.00.00 West. Approx 0.6km north of 58N.4W.

The position of 58N.4W lies in the valley floor by a stream on the centre line of the image.  View is looking SSE.

The monument is to the infamous Duke of Sutherland and sits on top of Ben Bhraggie, 397m.

Because of long covid there was no way I would be able to get to the top of the hill. Having researched the area I tried to get the closest road to the intersection. As it happened there is a lay-by at 58.02, -5.07. As I was planning what to do, this shot appeared. it would have been seen from the intersection looking W. It's 3 miles from the intersection at the top of the hill and it also seems to align with the Moine Thrust.

Taken from the intersection point looking south- southwest towards the Fisherfield Forest, also known as the Great Wilderness, which contains the remotest Munros in Scotland. From left to right are several Munros (including Munro Tops) and a Corbett: Beinn Tarsuinn (934m) is in the heart of the Fisherfield Forest, one of the wildest places in Scotland; Beinn a' Chlaidheimh was listed as a Munro itself until 2012, however it was found to come up just 44 cm short of the required 914.40 m height required for a Munro, and was subsequently downgraded to Corbett status according to Wikipedia; Slioch (981m); Spidean a' Choire Lèith (Liathach) (1055m); Sail Liath (An Teallach - Sgùrr Fiona) (954m); and Stob Cadha Gobhlach (An Teallach - Sgùrr Fiona) 960 m.

Taken at the intersection and looking approximately SSW, this infrared image depicts a small puddle in the blanket bog that covers much of Assynt.  The mountains in the distance on the left of the frame include Beinn Dearg at 1084m whilst An Teallach (1062m) is just out of view to the right of the frame.

58N 7W is on top of a crag to the east of and overlooking Loch Bràigh Bheagarais on the Isle of Harris. Although I managed to climb onto the crag the January wind was brutally strong at the exposed top, with a sustained wind that made it unsafe for me to stand, let alone take pictures. Read more...

58N 7W on Harris is one of the most scenic latitude and longitude intersections in the whole country. I camped at the spot overnight with my wife and our dog at the end of May hoping for a sunset but instead finding overcast conditions and an icy northerly wind. I was up at 4.30am the following morning to find clear skies and I made my way to the northern side of Loch Braigh Bheagarais to align the loch with the distant view of the Harris hills and Luskentyre. This photo was taken at 58°00’05”N 7”00’09”W. The true intersection lies just 300m from this point, on the far left edge of the image, but ultimately this majestic view was too much to pass up!

The intersection 59N 3W was in a field behind me. Due to a busy road I picked a safer place 500m away. This was close to Kirkwall, Orkney looking North. Taken at sunset, the low mist just hung around for days as it seems to do in March.

This intersection lies in a field on the southern side of the A965, just outside Kirkwall. Unable to easily access the field, my image was made from the roadside, approximately 100 metres north of the intersection, facing east towards Hatston industrial estate and ferry terminal. The intersection itself is not included.

Of all the wonderful places in Orkney, 59N 3W has to be in an uninteresting field!  Photographed looking approximately west from the A965.

The intersection 59N 3W is in the green fields, just beyond and to the left of the small farm building located in the field left of centre with all the sheep.  The image is a panorama taken from Wideford Hill looking north west.  The island of Shapinsay is the main land mass visible across the water. Behind Shapinsay you can see one of the vast cruise liners which visit the Orkney archipelago every year.  The viewpoint on Wideford Hill is about one mile from the intersection.
