RPS WOMEN IN PHOTOGRAPHY / 2027

Dear Prime Minister

What would you like the Prime Minister to see?

“Dear Prime Minister” is the latest project from the RPS Women in Photography group. The aim is to give all Women in Photography members an opportunity to make a documentary body of work. The final collection will be published as a photobook.

Dear Prime Minister documentary photography collage illustrating food ingredients, river pollution, homelessness and data centre development.

The Project

The objective is to create a visual “letter” to the Prime Minister highlighting an issue that you feel that the country should address. The choice of subject is entirely your choice. The visual “letter” will be a collection of about 20 images that describe an issue through visual storytelling. The project will run over a period of one year.

Support and Collaboration

Some of you will have experience of documentary photography. For those who haven’t or those who would welcome support, we will provide support through monthly Zoom sessions. These will start with discussing how to approach the project and evolve into positive comments on your progress.

Who Can Take Part?

This opportunity is open to everyone in the Women in Photography group, regardless of your political views or affiliations. If you are outside the UK, you are welcome to join. Your choice of subject could be an issue relevant to your own country, or equally could be a global issue relevant to the United Kingdom as well.

You can make the work using any photographic equipment or processes. The only requirement is that you can produce a series of images with a strong narrative suitable for publishing. This project should consist of new images made for this project.

How to Take Part

If you would like to join in, then you will need to write a brief statement of your proposed idea. Include a description of the issue that you would like to address. If you know how you would like to approach this, then a brief explanation would be helpful. If this is something completely new, and you would like help, then please say so. The intention is to limit this project to about 15 members with mixed levels of experience.

Please submit these to Christina Osborne at exhibitions@rps.org by 31 January 2027.
