Body and Earth by Antonia Penia

20 Feb – 18 Apr | Instituto Cervantes | Manchester

Body and Earth is an immersive exhibition by award-winning artist and photographer Antonia Penia exploring the intrinsic connection between humans and the Earth.

Through photography, video, and performance, Penia highlights our symbiosis with nature and addresses contemporary issues such as climate change and our responsibility towards the environment.

Penia’s work delves into human vulnerabilities and resilience, focusing on women’s experiences. She views the human body as an expression of freedom, symbolising the beauty of the spirit and our natural need to be free. Known for her bold self-portraiture, Penia’s career began with her project Leave Me Alone (2004), and her first Playboy cover at the age of 26.

Join for the opening night at Instituto Cervantes, Manchester, featuring a guided tour by the artist and a glass of Spanish wine.

The exhibition is free to enter and will be open from Monday to Thursday, from 10:00 to 21:00, and on Fridays, from 10:00 to 14:30.

Let's Talk About Rape by Jadwiga Brontē

Let’s Talk About Rape® is a movement that challenges the silence and stigma surrounding sexual violence. Through photography and creative expression, the project empowers survivors to reclaim their narratives, confront trauma, and redefine themselves as survivors, not victims.

By using photography as therapy, the project fosters deep personal engagement, creating powerful images that demand recognition, showcasing strength, dignity, and defiance. Survivors’ stories, from war-related rape to child sexual abuse, reveal the truth that shame belongs to the perpetrator, not the survivor.

Let’s Talk About Rape® shifts the narrative from victimhood to resilience and resistance, breaking societal taboos and fostering empowerment.
