Video Project

The RPS Women in Photography group invites you to take part in an exciting new project:

"Video Stories” – a platform for you to share your photography in a fresh, dynamic way.

We’re inviting members to create a video or slideshow that either:

Showcases your photography: A visual portfolio-style presentation of your work, giving insight into your creative style, themes, or evolution as a photographer. Or,
Tells a story: Use still images, video, sound, and/or voiceover to tell a personal or documentary-style story exploring a subject or theme that matters to you.

This is a chance to express yourself visually in a new format, experiment with storytelling, and share your voice with the wider community.

What Can You Include?

Stills (photography from any project, genre, or body of work)
Short video clips
Music, sound effects, or voiceover
Titles and/or simple text

You can keep it simple or get creative — it's entirely up to you!

How to Take Part

Export your finished video/slideshow as a .mp4 or .mov file
Upload your video to here: https://pollunit.com/en/polls/rpswomeninphotography_shortvideo
When uploading your video, you should also include the following information:
- Your name and RPS Distinction
- A short paragraph (100–150 words) about the piece
- Whether this is a showcase or a story
- Confirm your are an RPS WIP member

Voting

Voting takes place from 01 - 15 January 2026.

All WIP members will be emailed a link to vote for their favourite video. Look for the voting announcement links on the RPS Women in Photography website and our social media.

Helpful Tips for Making Your Video

Editing Software (Free & Paid):

Free Options:

iMovie (Mac, iOS) – Great for beginners, easy to use
DaVinci Resolve (Mac/Windows) – A professional-grade free editor (a steeper learning curve but very powerful)
Canva Video (Web-based) – Drag-and-drop slideshow/video tools with templates
CapCut (Mobile/Desktop) – Simple video editor great for reels or shorter edits
Windows Video Editor – Built into Windows; basic but functional

Paid Options:

Adobe Premiere Pro – Industry standard, professional tools and support
Final Cut Pro (Mac) – High-performance and popular with creators
Lumen5 or Animoto – Subscription-based tools focused on video storytelling

Tips for Success:

Keep it short and engaging – aim for clarity, impact, and flow
Use a mix of stills and video if you like, but still photography alone works well
Add simple text, titles, or subtitles for context
Think about sound: music, natural audio, or even a voiceover can elevate your story
Don't worry about being perfect — it's about creative expression, not technical perfection
Watch a few short creative videos for inspiration — especially those that blend words, images, and sound
Try storyboarding or planning your message in advance — even if just in bullet points

We’re proud to feature this powerful short film by RPS WIP member Sinead Le Blond as an example of what’s possible.

Through a blend of stills, video, and voice, Sinead shares a deeply personal and creative story — a beautiful reminder of how photography and film can express not just what we see, but who we are.

Her work is a brilliant example of how this project can be interpreted — honest, creative, and completely her own.
