Rachel Nixon
WE ARE Magazine Editor
Rachel Nixon

Rachel is a British-Canadian fine art photographer – and former journalist – based in Vancouver, Canada.

Having lived and worked across continents and cultures, Rachel’s work explores issues such as a desire for connection with one’s heritage; secrecy; isolation; and memory.

Photography is Rachel’s “second act”. Previously she had a 20-year career as a digital journalist, editor and news executive in the UK, US and Canada for the BBC, CBC and Microsoft, amongst others.

In 2019, Rachel graduated with honours from the VanArts professional photography program. Her work is exhibited internationally and has received accolades, including four Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.

Rachel loves to travel to new places and is passionate about many forms of art—especially music. She finds inspiration in the urban and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, which she calls home.

WE ARE Magazine Contributing Editor
Alice Chapman

Alice is a documentary family photographer and mentor in Cambridge, UK. She has a family which is growing up too fast, a house full of Lego and a garage full of books she might yet read. Her own family photos help her enjoy the moment once the dust has settled.

Alice believes in embracing the chaos of real family life, and that being photographed shouldn’t feel like going to the dentist. Driven to bottle character and to champion individuality, Alice photographs people being themselves: best behaviour optional.

Through her photography, Alice aims to make order out of chaos and to make art out of the ordinary.

Liz Benjamin

From her artworking studio at home in Hertfordshire, Liz produces brochures, flyers, exhibition material and digital media across multiple product lines. Before this, she was a children’s portrait photographer and she also works on her own photography projects when time allows. Her current projects centre on dogs, focusing on dog shows and greyhounds, working mostly in black and white but starting to venture into colour.

Liz completed a BA in Photography at the University of Westminster, graduating with first-class honours. During this time, she designed two photo books, one of which—GREY—was chosen for the RPS International Photobook Exhibition 2016.

She has a Lambretta scooter, too many old cameras and is happiest out walking her two rescue dogs - Jazz and Cerys.

Miranda Gavin

Miranda Gavin has decades of editorial experience working on photography publications in the UK and internationally, including Hotshoe International, where she was deputy editor for six years, and the BJP and F2 magazine, where she was a freelance writer. Miranda co-founded a research and development creative initiative, Tri-Pod, supporting visual artists with projects in process and has curated photographic exhibitions, most recently, Gaslighting, in association with the Socially Engaged Art Salon (SEAS). She has also mentored and written gallery and book texts for a number of photographers and visual artists. As well as editorial work, Miranda is an educator who delivers creative workshops including a self-identity workshop for a youth empowerment programme aimed at 16-25 year-olds, Positive View, that uses photography and film.

Victoria Medina Headshot
WE ARE Magazine Copy Editor
Victoria Medina

Victoria is a British-Spanish photographer with a passion for black and white documentary photography. Her work explores psychogeography, the impact of environments on emotions and behaviour, as well as the transformation of urban spaces as a result of natural phenomena, those who inhabit them, and the inevitable passing of time. Her work has been published in Revista Invernadero, one of Spain’s literature, photography and visual arts publications, among others.

When not taking photos, Victoria works as a PR consultant and copywriter, splitting her time between the UK and Spain. She graduated in 2014 from the Complutense University of Madrid with a Licentiate Degree in Journalism and has completed several photography courses, including at the University of the Arts London.

WE ARE Magazine Proofreader
Isabelle Desgranges

Isabelle has been a life-long amateur photographer, starting with film SLR cameras from the late 1980s onwards, experimenting with medium format as a teenager, and re-finding her love of photography in her mid-30s with a light-weight DSLR.

These days she is rarely seen out and about without her camera and is best described as a spontaneous photographer – taking shots of the world around her as she moves through it, from landscape to cityscape, from urban detail to wildlife moments.

A lawyer by trade, Isabelle lives in London and travels as much as possible with her wife (and her cameras...).

Jane Robb Headshot
WE ARE Magazine Proofreader
Dr Jane Robb

An academic and creative, Jane has over a decade of experience in the education sector, working in the UK and Europe, with a research and teaching focus on geosciences and environmental education. Her creative work is often in response to place, exploring what it means to belong. Her photography isn’t confined to one genre; instead, she uses the expanded field of photography to respond to ideas and themes, including writing and drawing in mixed media projects.

Jane is currently studying a module for a BA in Photography with the Open College of the Arts, having completed their Foundations in Photography in 2023.

Victoria Robb

Victoria loves photography as a way of exploring the world around her. It started off by taking photographs on family walks and holidays, and then on walking and trekking holidays abroad – with a love of mountains and wild places. Now she is interested in the connections between us and our environment, how we have shaped places and used Earth's materials, and some of the overlooked beauty around us. Patterns, shapes, geometries and details – natural and manmade.  It provides her with a great reason to be outside, get away from a computer, and lose herself in finding interesting subjects to photograph as she walks.

Victoria is a keen follower of photojournalism and environmental photography, which brings important attention to issues we would otherwise not be aware of around land use and people impacts. Outside of photography, she works in public policy as a senior adviser, with a master's in Economics and Earth Sciences.
