Crummock Water Milky Way and Lyrid Meteors by Mark Hetherington

I love photographing the night sky and especially the Milky Way, I live near The Lake District, which has lots of Dark Sky areas, and I always have a few locations planned, one of them being the subject of this image Crummock Water in Buttermere. With clear skies forecast combined with Milky Way Core visibility, I headed to Crummock Water and what a night the 19th/20th of April turned out to be under a galaxy of stars. I had to wait in the cold until 2.30 am in the morning to capture the Milky Way core rising on the right of Grasmoor and I was really pleased to capture a couple of Lyrid Meteors as a bonus, which made enduring the cold well worth it and the winds receded as the Milky Way core came up so I could also capture the reflections of the mountains in Crummock Water.Camera Details: Sony A7iv Sony 14mm F1.8 GMCamera Settings: F2 ISO 1600 15secondsThis is a Panorama made up of nine portrait images stitched and edited in Lightroom to bring out the details of the Milky Way.
