A lot goes on behind the scenes to bring WE ARE Magazine to life. We're now looking for members who would like to volunteer their time and skills to help put the magazine together.
Published twice a year, the magazine showcases and celebrates the work of female and female-identifying photographers at all levels of experience and across genres.
We're seeking members to participate in the following roles:
Designer
You'll be laying out members' photo-rich features to show their work in its best light in the magazine, making decisions about presentation and format. You will also participate in shaping the look and feel of the magazine over time.
You must be skilled in design, have experience in creating visually appealing layouts for magazines or similar products, and you should be proficient in Adobe InDesign. A strong understanding of typography, color theory, and composition is important. Experience with photo editing and a passion for storytelling using visual elements are a plus. You must have your own Adobe InDesign software.
Needed from early July onwards to support publication of the September issue.
Copy editor
You'll be working with text and images submitted by our authors to ensure their articles are as compelling and clear as possible while staying true to the author's voice. You may be asked to write headlines and summaries to accompany the work. You must communicate changes and feedback with clarity, care and respect.
Editorial experience is essential, along with a love for storytelling and a collaborative spirit.
Needed from early July onwards to support publication of the September issue.
Proofreader
You'll be making sure that each article is polished and error-free, before we finalize the magazine. You need a keen eye for detail, strong grammar and punctuation skills, and a passion for clear and engaging writing.
Experience in proofreading, editing, or journalism is preferred.
Needed from late July onwards to support publication of the September issue.

In each of these roles you will be working closely with the magazine editor. All roles require:
- Attention to detail
- Ability to deliver to deadlines.
While there are certain "crunch" production periods, with enough notice and organization, the work can be fitted in around your own schedule. We may combine copy editing and proofreading roles depending on interest.
Please note, these are all volunteer roles. You'll be joining a small yet mighty, collaborative team dedicated to creating a high-quality photo publication with a contemporary outlook.
