Celebrating The 40% Project
I am delighted to share that the RPS Women in Photography Group has reached its Kickstarter goal for The 40% Project, meaning that the project’s book will now be published.
The project marks the historic 2024 General Election, when women made up more than 40% of the House of Commons for the first time. Around 130 women photographers took part, photographing more than 255 of the women MPs elected in 2024, with the entire project coordinated voluntarily through the RPS Women in Photography Group.
Each portrait offers a thoughtful and personal perspective on representation in modern Britain. Together, the photographs create an important visual record of leadership, resilience, visibility and change.
From the beginning, the project has been about ensuring that this significant moment in British history is properly recorded, both through our online gallery and in print. A copy of the completed book will also be held by the British Library, preserving the work as part of the national record.
Seeing the Kickstarter campaign reach its funding target has been an incredibly special moment. I am enormously grateful to everyone who has supported the project, and especially to every photographer who gave her time, creativity and commitment to make it possible.
The Kickstarter campaign closes at 9.59am BST on Thursday 30 July 2026, after which pre-orders through Kickstarter will no longer be available.
