Statement of Intent

People of the Cape Verde island of SAL

Uninhabited until colonized by Portugal in the 15th Century the Cape Verde islands gained their independence in 1975.

The island of SAL was for many years a centre for salt mining, hence the name.

The most notable features of the island are the coastline and the people but for me the people are what makes the island such an attractive and unique encounter. Hence the intention here is to show the people in their daily lives and to capture the spirit of their community young and old, ancient and modern.
