Statement of Intent
I have had a passion for narrow gauge railways for 50 years. This grew out of a family visit as a 5-year-old to Ffestiniog railway and my excitement and wonder of these small-scale railways has never left me. I have been carrying out a long-term project based at the Talyllyn Railway in North Wales focusing on the activities of the volunteers and staff.
This project entitled, "The other side of the track" started in November 2020 and will run until December 2021 and documents the staff and volunteers of the railway as they go about their duties keeping the railway running as it moves into its 70th year in preservation. Heritage railways have many hundreds of thousands of images taken each year by visitors but they almost exclusively focus on the locomotives and the scenery seldom on the people who keep the railway operating both public facing and behind the scenes.
