Statement of Intent
Through the flâneur approach, using the element of chance, I capture candid pictures of people pursuing different activities within the built environment.
My main focus is on depicting solitary figures against their vaster man-made surroundings, contrasting the human figure with the artificial and often angular built environment. I show the subjects occasionally prominent in the picture, but usually just as small(er) figures to emphasise the difference in scale of buildings and the humans using them.
While freezing a transient moment, I attempt to go beyond the immediacy of this moment by imbuing the images with aesthetics and mood, using and enhancing the contrast created by the ambient light to create a visual language to convey beauty in the mundane.
