Announcing the recipients of The Royal Photographic Society Member Awards 2025 for those individuals who have made an excellent or outstanding contribution to the work of the Society.
Join us as we celebrate the 2026 recipients who have volunteered and worked tirelessly to support the society and deliver programmes for members.
After training at Ealing School of Photography, Gilly worked as assistant to portrait and industrial photographer Adolph Morath. Gilly also took production photographs for theatres in the North-West. Arthur Gill encouraged Gilly to get involved in historical research with her list of Manchester’s Victorian photographers. As Chair of the Historical Group, Gilly has been particularly concerned in building up the groups archive of online talks.
Photography has been a life-long pursuit for Neill since starting at the age of 8. He joined the RPS and the Digital Imaging group in 2014, with the aim of improving his technique and creativity. He finds the DI events that he helps to run a source of inspiration and much enjoys working with the DI volunteer team.
Katherine Maguire a Dutch Photographer originally from Scotland, moved to the Netherlands in 1997. Katherine’s photography interests have focused mainly on invisible illnesses, her ARPS in 2021, was about how Katherine’s retina disease affected her eyesight, followed by a series of self portraits about her polyneuropathy. Katherine’s latest project is examining what could happen to her sight, if her retina disease deteriorates.
Sue Wright is a photographer and Chair of the RPS Women in Photography Group. Her voluntary work focuses on creating opportunities for women photographers to connect, participate and have their work seen. She led 40%: Inspiring Women MPs Photographed by Women, bringing together women photographers across the UK to create a photographic record of women’s representation in Parliament.
Howard Klein has always enjoyed being outdoors, so landscape photography had a natural attraction. Howard’s love of colder places gets him to Scotland, with its ever-changing weather and challenges, whenever he can. However, Howard regularly visits East Sussex just 90 minutes away; and also enjoy the opportunities that London offers.
Howard believes in printing as an art form – hence launching the LSIG exhibition.
The RPS Fenton Medal is named after Roger Fenton, one of the founders of the RPS who served for several years as its Honorary Secretary. It was first awarded in 1980 and since 1998 it carries with it Honorary Membership of the Society. No more than three or four Fenton Medals are awarded each year.
The award of the RPS Fenton Medal is presented to a member or non-member who has made an excellent or notable contribution to the work of the Society.
The RPS President’s Medal, instituted by RPS President Simon Hill HonFRPS in 2023, replaced the RPS Members award. This medal was first Awarded in 2023 and comes with an Honorary Membership.
The RPS President’s Medal is Awarded in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the Society over a sustained period. This is not normally a reward for service on a committee, but it does not exclude committee members where an outstanding contribution can be cited.
