Travel Image Monthly Competition - November 2022
Justin Cliffe writes: A lovely selection of images to look through and consider this month - and good to see a few more entrants as well.
After some considerable thought - and regular returns to my shortlist, I have picked, as my winner of the November Image of the Month:Winning Image
Joy at the field, Indonesia - Victor Wong A delightful, and yes, joyful, image - and a wonderful colour combination with the bright red of the children’s clothing contrasting with the bright green of the trees in the background. This setting helps provide context to the image as well as a sense of place and its framing helps emphasise the extent of the forest behind the children. I also have three Highly Commended images: The Water Carrier, Maheshwar, India - Neil Harris What a lovely portrait of this young woman - great expression which has been nicely caught - and the drops of water from her water bucket complete the story. Beautifully sharp, nicely blurred background and the soft colours made this image a strong contender. Peeking through the fence, Ethiopia - Bob Chiu This is an interesting image - what’s the story? The photographer has caught the moment when the person the other side of the fence and one of the boys have become aware of and are looking at the camera, drawing our eyes to the centre of the image. The other boys around help both the composition and the sense of place. The only suggestion would a tighter crop which would help focus the viewer’s attention on the person the other side of the fence, the main subject of this photo. Gondoli, Gondola, Venice - Anton Panchenkov This one just made me smile, great title - and absolutely ripe for a caption competition! It’s a great travel image - this can only be Venice and it tells the story of tourist and gondoliers - and the vivid, primary, colours help this image to stand out.2017-2018 winners, 2019 winners, 2020 winners, 2021 winners, 2022 winners
