Travel Image of the Month - September 2022
Just 13 images for consideration this month - which is a little disappointing given the size of our membership - but, nevertheless, a nice selection.
After considerable thought and reflection, I’ve picked, as my Image of the Month for September: Misty Mekong Morning - Tony Beane Great atmosphere here - it’s really made by the early morning mist but also helped by the three figures on the right. In a perfect world (which we don’t have!), the prow of the boat in the right foreground would have some space between it and the boat behind it, nevertheless, this is a very nice, restful, travel photograph and deserves to be this month’s winner. I also have a couple of Highly Commended images which are, in no particular order: A Day in Paris - Sanjoy Sengupta We know exactly where we are with this photograph - with the Eiffel Tower in the background. The lad on the scooter is well positioned to the left of the image, with room to continue his journey through the frame and I do like the low angle that the photographer has used here. The one thing that concerns me slightly is the post-processing and, presumably the darkening down of the background which, to my eyes, has produced a light halo / glow-effect around the boy. Lightroom’s ’Select Subject’ local adjustment feature would do a good job here. Ganpati Immersion, India - Saraubh Bhattacharyya This is a strong image - helped by the fact that our eyes go straight to the Ganpati artefact because of its colour, brightness and positioning in the frame. A slightly tighter crop and some brightening down of the top left of the image would further concentrate our attention on the main subject - albeit we are helped here by the three men helping with, and thereby framing, Ganpati’s immersion.2017-2018 winners, 2019 winners, 2020 winners, 2021 winners, 2022 winners
