Welcome to the Last Chair Chat of the year

Welcome! By the time you read this, Halloween will have been, and we will start thinking about Christmas. It has been a busy year for the Committee with several projects and events on the go, some concluding soon. As well as our regular monthly and themed competitions, we have our three projects: the Shipping Forecast, Postcards from Home and the Zine Project.

The Shipping Forecast runs until the end of March, so you still have time to sign up and participate. We have over 80 people already signed up for this project and we’re looking forward to seeing your images. We recently celebrated World Postcard Day which highlights the enduring popularity of postcards. Postcards from Home finishes at the end of December with a submission date of the end of January. We have had several submissions already and the variations in the approach to the subject and presentation are going to make a really interesting book. Please keep submitting your entries. The Zine Project launched in April, and Tim Daly, RPS Photobook Distinctions Panel Member, gave an Introductory Briefing to get us started. A shorter recorded version of the briefing plus full notes are available on the Landscape Group Projects web page. This was followed in September by an informative, well attended talk on Zines (and Photobooks) by Euan Ross, creator of the Biblioscapes website and podcast. On Monday 6th November, Tim will be commenting on the zines submitted (by PDF) for review followed by a Q&A session (time permitting). We were overwhelmed by the response and a huge thanks to the 27 participants who submitted. Tim’s feedback is "there has been some lovely stuff submitted, some terrific photography too". We can’t wait to see the zines. The project will finish at the end of December with 15th January as the final day for posting for those who have registered to take part in the Zine Swap. The Talk-Walk-Talk (TWT) collaboration with Digital Imaging has proven very successful with some great feedback from those who have participated. Our first one on Coastal photography is concluding and we have announced the second one with a theme of Architecture and the Built Environment. More details coming soon.

Our Circles are proving very popular, and we have recently added three new Critique Circles (27 new members in total). There are now 8 Critique, 3 Print and 4 Processing Circles. As soon as we create a new group it fills up and we now need a small number of volunteers willing to lead new Critique and Processing Circles. You don’t need to be in an existing Circle to take on the role. Please contact David Travis, our Landscape Group Circles Co-ordinator, for more details: landscapecircle@rps.org
