Welcome to the latest Chair Chat

I hope you’re all managing to get out and make the most of the longer days. I recently visited Glencoe, and we had the complete range of weather over three days, from sunshine to snow. I think it’s always worth repeat visits to even popular locations as the light and conditions are forever changing. There’s always something new to see or a different angle on a favourite view.

The Landscape Group has been busy over the past few weeks and months. We have recently launched two new projects, the Calendar Project and Sound-Scapes.

The Landscape Group is excited to launch our first-ever calendar project. Many of us have calendars adorning our walls. In this digital age, there is still something reassuring about having inspiring images displayed on a printed calendar that we can admire every month throughout the year. We want to celebrate the incredible images we see from our members on a regular basis by creating our first-ever Landscape Group calendar. Submissions are open until 30 June. More details are here.

Sound-Scapes is a collaborative project run jointly by the RPS Landscape and Audio-Visual groups. The aim is for participants to produce audio-visual (AV) presentations to showcase landscape photography and to explore AV as a method of showing photographs in an engaging and meaningful way. The project will run throughout 2024 with a final submission date of 31 January 2025. More details are here.

Our other projects have now closed.

The Shipping Forecast has now finished, and judging is in progress. Selected images will soon be available to view in a web gallery. The project webpage is here.

Postcards from Home was a project involving participants creating postcards at locations five miles from home. A web gallery of the postcards created is here. Alongside this gallery, a book featuring all the postcards will be created and sent to all who enrolled for the project.

The aim of the Zine Project was to encourage people to have a go and produce their own zine.  Everyone who participated in the project has been encouraged to submit their zine for display on a stand at the Landscape Group Conference in spring 2025. We are also planning an article in the Landscape Group magazine. The project webpage is here.

The Talk-Walk-Talk (TWT) series run in collaboration with the Digital Imaging Group has been a huge success and we are currently concluding our second themed TWT on Architecture and Built Environment: https://talkwalktalk.org/ We will be running a third TWT on Woodland in the autumn. More details soon.

Alongside all this, we have a full programme of member and professional-led events. More details are here.

Finally, early bird tickets are available for our Residential Conference which takes place from 7-9 March 2025. This will be a weekend of top-quality speakers, location shoots and workshops at the stunning DoubleTree Hotel in North Queensferry on the banks of the beautiful Firth of Forth. More details and tickets are available here.

Until next time…

Colin
