About the Projects Programme
Are you enthusiastic about working in projects? Or wanted to but never quite finished one? Have you ever got stuck with a project and not been able to re-boot? Do you start projects with a clear plan? Or do you prefer to go out with your camera without a clear intention and pull work together if it feels right at a later stage? Is there an issue that you feel passionate about that you would like to illustrate?
If you said "YES" to any of these then why not join the Projects Programme.
The Projects Project
This project will run for 18 months during which time we will each develop a photographic project which contains some elements of landscape photography.
The culmination of the Projects Project will be a Zoom event during which participants will describe their projects and outputs.
"Landscape" photography is defined as the photographic portrayal of all elements of the land, sea and sky whether natural or built or influenced by human endeavour. Examples include mountains, hills, farmland, coasts, bodies of water, forests and populated and industrial areas. Images may be created using traditional or other techniques (including but not limited to infrared, multiple exposures, intentional camera movement, abstraction, minimalism and post-processing).
What is a suitable project?
For the purposes of this programme, any landscape-related body of work is acceptable, providing that there is reflection on the work as it progresses.
It could be as simple as learning to use a new piece of equipment, or as complex as developing an AV documentary. It could be going out into the landscape and taking pictures that suggest themselves to you, coming home and thinking about what worked, what didn't and trying again; or going out with the clear intention of creating a zine about your local patch.
18-Month Journey
Programme Plan
The Landscape Group will be providing Zoom talks throughout the programme. We also know that many of you have excellent skills in some aspects of project working, so we hope to develop a group that offers each other support and encouragement. To facilitate this, we will be running a private Facebook page where members can ask questions and share information, plus peer support sessions where small groups meet to discuss project progress.
All Zoom talks will be recorded and available to participants for the duration of the programme

Working in Projects
Rob is an outdoor and landscape photographer, writer, visual storyteller, photographic and creative educator, accredited Adobe Education Trainer, speaker and mentor. He specialises in exploring the landscape, with a particular focus on humanity's interaction with and shaping of our environment, using this relationship as a lens for visual storytelling. He finds great inspiration in engaging with projects both short and long term, allowing him to delve deeply into the stories that landscapes hold.
Rob runs project workshops and will share his knowledge and experience to help kick us all off to a good start with our own projects.

Vision and Voice: Artist Statements and Visual Storytelling
Saskia Coulson is a photographer and filmmaker whose practice bridges artistic expression, documentary storytelling, and evocative landscape imagery. Her work combines strong composition, natural light, and narrative sensitivity to capture place and people with authenticity. She has devised and completed several long-term projects, with images earning international awards and recognition.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have an idea for my project now?
Absolutely not! We will provide suggestions of ways in which projects are identified.
Do I need to have an output in mind now?
No, not at all. Many projects start without an output plan; others change the plan during the project. If you do have a plan, be prepared to change it if you come up with a better one later!
Can I change my project mid-way?
Of course! Many projects change completely as the photographer learns more about their subject.
Does the project need to be only landscape genre?
Not at all! Many projects will need to include elements of other genres to be effective.
Can I attend the introductory session before I commit?
Yes! Anyone is welcome to attend the free introductory session.
When do I need to sign up for the programme?
The closing date for registration is 20 May 2026.
