This Quarter's Theme

Minimalist Landscapes

Tollgate Islands by Jacky Lee ASICI FRPS, illustrating the Minimalist Landscapes theme

Tollgate Islands · Jacky Lee ASICI FRPS

There is a particular power in a landscape photograph that leaves things out. A lone tree on a snow-covered slope, a single rock breaking the surface of still water, the soft line where sea, mist and sky dissolve into one another: pared back to its essentials, even a familiar scene can take on remarkable calm, clarity and strength. This theme invites you to see more by including less, letting negative space, gentle tones and a single point of focus carry the character of a place.

Whether you are drawn to bold, graphic compositions built from a few simple shapes or to quiet, high-key scenes softened by mist, snow or long exposure, we would love to see your interpretation of Minimalist Landscapes.
