Weather and Atmosphere

There is something deeply evocative about the way weather shapes a scene. A drifting veil of mist, the drama of storm clouds, the hush of falling snow, the glow after rain or the shimmer of heat in the distance — atmosphere can transform even the most familiar landscape into something powerful, mysterious or serene. This theme invites you to explore the moods created by the elements and the way nature’s changing conditions influence light, colour, texture and emotion.

Whether you are capturing sweeping skies, fleeting fog, dramatic rain or subtle atmospheric effects that add depth and feeling to an image, we would love to see your interpretation of Weather and Atmosphere.

How To Enter

Landscape Group members are invited to submit up to three images. Before submitting, please resize your image to 2000px on the long edge. To enter, click the ‘Submit your images’ button below. After uploading your image, please add the title and your name — and don’t forget to include your RPS distinction.

Winners and runners-up will have their images featured in RPS Landscape Group publications and on our social media channels, and may also be shared on Fotovue’s website and social media (with credit).

All Landscape Group members will be invited to vote, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced on the RPS Landscape Group website and on social media.

Copyright remains with the originator, and each photographer is deemed to warrant that they own the entire copyright in the work.

The RPS Landscape Group reserves the right to display any entry on the Landscape Group’s web pages or social media, and on Fotovue’s website or social media. Where an entry is displayed, the photographer will always be credited. Images must have been taken on or after 1 January 2025. When submitting your image, please use the following naming convention: image-title-by-firstname-lastname.
